Indian Institute of Technolog Bombay, or IIT Bombay, was set up in 1958 as the first Indian Institute of Technolo to be set up with foreign assistance. When the Parliament decreed IITs as 'Institutes of National Importance' in 1961, IIT Bombay has grown quite substantially and has emerged as one of the top technical universities in the world.
It has a total of 14 academic departments, 6 centres, 1 school, and 3 interdisciplinary programmes.
IIT Bombay is recognised worldwide as a leader in the field of engineering education and research and is reputed for the quality of its faculty and the outstanding calibre of students graduating from its undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
