  • ICARUS is a European Robotics project that aims at using the Robotic technology on the terrain for SAR or Search and Rescue operations along with crisis management.

The project is supported by the Seventh Framework Programme. Funded by the Directorate-General for Enterprise and Industry in the European Commission, ICARUS introduces the idea of unmanned Search and Rescue tools that can help save many human lives by speeding up the SAR process.

This Robotics project addresses the different problems that are keeping unmanned rescue tools from reaching the end-users. ICARUS aims at creating a toolbox of combined components for unmanned Search and Rescue so that the end-users are able to access these tools.

The main objective of this project is to use Robotics for reducing the impact of the disaster on citizens. By using unmanned search and rescue tools, crisis personnel will be able to provide easy to understand and thorough information about the crisis.

The new system will let crisis personnel know about hazards and threats present on the ground, which will improve their performance in controlling the situation.
