Robocup is a yearly robotics event organized by the RoboCup Federation and aims to promote robotics worldwide.
The RoboCup event consists of competitions, demonstrations and educational games and is becoming increasingly popular. At this moment it is the largest international robotics event in the world.
RoboCup was founded in 1997 and was first held in Nagoya, Japan, just shortly after Garry Kasparov was defeated by "Deep Blue", the supercomputer from IBM.
In the years that followed Robocup established several robot competitions to stimulate robotics technology and to inspire people to get involved in robot development:
RoboCup Soccer where teams from universities from all over the world play robot soccer. Their aim is to build a robot that can compete with human soccer players in the year 2050.
