    The Cheetah, the fastest land animal on the planet, takes the form of a robot through the efforts of people at the University of Arizona’s Laboratory of Robotics and Neural Systems. The group of robotic experts, headed by project managers Tony Lewis and Matt Bunting, launched the Cheetah robot at the ICRA held in May 2011 with only the hind limbs presented before the attendees.

    The hind limbs of the Cheetah robot showed extreme speed and force when they kicked from a crouched position. The legs of this robotic animal utilize hybrid actuators, with RX-64 electric motors and pneumatic actuators providing energy for fire positioning. SolidWorks helped with part of the realization of the Cheetah robot by utilizing the 3D printers on its laboratories to make the plastic shells for the legs.

    There is a whole lot more to watch out for with the Cheetah robot. The University of Arizona considersthat the Cheetah robot’s upper parts are still in the process of development. Only then can the robotics community actually tell if it could at least match up the speed and vigor possessed by a real Cheetah.
