Japan’s Daiwa House Industry and Robo-Garage, in collaboration with the Chiba Institute of Technology, have launched a robot designed to replace humans for work in high-stress or hazardous environments. Moogle, as they named it, is a 13 kilogram, 50x30x24 centimeter crawlspace-inspection robot that can “sneak” through spaces as small as 50 centimeters wide and 30 centimeters tall to inspect tiny gaps in a building’s foundation or ventilation systems. Similar to a military tank, it is equipped with two wide-angle CMOS cameras for driving and a CCD camera for inspecting. Moogle is powered by rechargeable NiMH batteries that last for approximately one hour, and can be comfortably controlled via Wi-Fi.
