Guide robot by Toshiba and Toshibatec
Robots seem to be invading many aspects of our industrial and personal lives. With the continuing development of technology and robotics, affordable and useful robots have been coming into the market. The Guide robot from Toshiba and its daughter company—Toshibatec, is a perfect example of this development. It serves as both a map guide and a personal assistant.
Toshiba’s Guide robot is equipped with 10 high-resolution cameras in order to easily create a precise map of a store that it is used in. The robot can pinpoint most of the passages and distinguish the best routes available. Its built-in Obstacle-Detection sensor allows it to navigate the area quickly and safely. State-of-the-art Ultrasonic sensors and a Laser-Range Finder are incorporated into the robot as well for improved guiding ability.
The Guide Robot’s interactive touchscreen allows users to request for information regarding a specific product and to view current promos of the store. The Robot’s stereo camera allows it to incorporate a person’s appearance into its memory. Once a person is recognized by the robot he becomes its new master.
