KDDI in collaboration with I Bee of Japan has developed a robot called the Pirkus-R. This robot contains upgraded facial recognition capabilities and is able to recognize human faces.
When it spots a face, this bipedal walking robot can track it down until it matches its existing data. Using a Bluetooth enabled handset, this robot can be controlled to capture and recognize faces.
A built in CCD camera helps this 1-foot tall personal robot see things, objects and faces. It provides information that the robot needs to verify if the face or object is registered in its database. This also allows the Pirkus-R to correct itself when it navigates and to avoid any collisions.
