WF-4RII
In 2005, the second version of the WF-4R was released by Waseda University, known as the WF-4RII, or Waseda University Flutist No. 4 Refined II. From the previous 38 degrees of freedom, ranges of motion were increased by including 43 degrees of freedom.
The previous mechanisms in the artificial organs are retained; however, one notable improvement is the eye system that consists of three degrees of freedom where two CCD cameras were attached. This is utilized to make the robot interact with the audience while performing music. It also makes the humanoid robot collaborate with other musical partners.
The face of the flute-playing robot was altered to make it friendlier in its expressions. The eyebrow freely moves according to the type of music being played. Like its predecessor, it uses two computers for the MIDI accompaniment data.
