PROFILE

  • Automation and Robotics Research Institute, University of Texas at Arlington

The Automation & Robotics Research Institute (ARRI) is part of the College of Engineering of the University of Texas Arlington. This institute is geared towards world-class research and development, with applications capable of being commercialized.

ARRI’s mission is to obtain and apply innovative knowledge, advance industrial technology and community services in order to boost economic growth, help in the protection of national security and further enhance the quality of life. The institute is also focused on becoming the global leader in the emerging discipline of Micro engineering. This is possible by augmenting basic and comprehensive sets of additional programs like education, service, extension, pilot production, and even commercialization.

ARRI’s research program includes three interrelated layers: the fundamental issues in robotics and micro technology, technological issues related to micro and nano-scale manufacturing, and engineered systems for complex applications.

The institute has also set up technology platforms that they will be using in order to demonstrate and evaluate new capabilities, concepts, and applications. These will provide research continuity, a collective market pull for more realistic intricate applications, and focal points where interdisciplinary work can be integrated continuously.

The institute has other research centers that help them with this work. Among the centers which have been actively involved in this research and development are the ACS, or the Advance Controls and Sensors Group, the Enterprise Engineering Group, the SBDC for Enterprise Development the Cross Timber Procurement Center, and the TMAC group, among others.
