PROFILE

  • The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) can trace its roots back in 1928 when it was founded by the Guomindang nationalist government. The university is not only considered as a national academy which focuses on natural sciences, but it is also a national scientific thinktank and academic governing body which advises and provides services to the country on issues affecting the country’s economy, social development, and science and technology.

Today, the school has 6 academic divisions and 13 regional branches scattered across the country. The academy has several research institutes including the Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences or CASIA. Students, at this institute, are educated about robotics, pattern recognition and control theory. One of the projects developed inside the lab is the Rotocraft flying robot, which is an aerial search and rescue robot. Other robotics research and projects include the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Robot, and Micro/Nano Robotics Biomedical Applications.
