PROFILE

  • The Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas or Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) is the most diverse and well-known research organization in Spain.

    With a staff of over 15,000 employees, the CSIC serves as the largest institution committed to multidisciplinary research in Spain. Associated with the Ministry of Science and Innovation, the institute’s main goal is to conduct research for the progress of science and technology.  From fundamental research to the transfer of knowledge to industries, the CSIC aims at improving every aspect of the science and technology policy.

    With research centers spread across various regions, the institute has over 3,000 researchers on staff and trains a number of doctors and scientists. The CSIC is also responsible for managing critical infrastructure, particularly for special libraries. It has signed around 418 actions under the 6th Framework Programme, 129 actions under the 7th Framework Programme and has been ranked the 5th European organization for project execution. In fact, it is known for receiving the highest amount of funding under the 6th Framework Programme.

    The CSIC is involved in robotics via the Institute for Industrial Automation (IAI) which is taking part in the Project CROPS that develops a harvesting robot for the greenhouse sector.
