PROFILE

  • When it comes to technology and robotics, the Gifu University stands out as one of Japan’s national universities in the Gifu Prefecture.

Established in 1949, this Japanese university has 6 faculties and has 8 Graduate Schools, which provide quality education to more than 8,000 students. Universities including the Shizuoka University, Shinshu University, Iwate University, Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology collaborated with Gifu University to set up several schools.

Besides the numerous departments and faculties, the Gifu University has various research facilities, centers and laboratories that can readily provide students with solid experience and sophisticated technological know-how.

The Kawasaki and Mouri Laboratory is one of the many laboratories where students study about intelligent machine systems and human interface that allow dexterous and autonomous robots to function just like humans. Their projects include the Pruning Robot, which is capable of pruning trees, climbing and even slicing some branches.

This laboratory is located inside the university’s Department of Human and Information Systems, Faculty of Engineering. Another laboratory known for intensive research is the Intelligent Manufacturing and Mechatronics Laboratory (Yamamoto and Yamada Lab).

Other projects conducted by researchers at the university include the robotic patient which can be used by medical practitioners in diagnosing certain diseases.
