Hankamp Rehab is a new company started out of Hankamp Gears, a producer of precision equipment. Hankamp Rehab specializes in innovative products for rehabilitation. The goal of this company is to become a worldwide developer and distributor of robotic products for this field. Together with Saebo INC, Hankamp has developed the SaeboMAS system.
Standing for Mobile Arm Support, MAS is a dynamic system designed for indoor use. It helps people, who have lost a certain amount of motor function in their arm, to recover while also being able to do daily activities that they were not able to do before. The traditional arm-supports used for these cases were used either as a rehabilitation tool or as a way to do daily activities. The SaeboMAS combines these two by assisting patients, and keeping them and their muscles challenged in order to increase the rehabilitation speed. The assistance level can be adjusted by a clinician to add more support or downgrade it to let the human muscles work on their own recovery. By changing the tension scale, a doctor can also track the recovery of the patient. The SaeboMAS is lightweight and can be easily secured on the side of a table.
Hankamp also provides other Saebo products such as the SaeboFLEX, a robotic wrist and fingers trainer that fits like a glove and the SaeboREACH, which supports the bending of the elbow. The products from Saebo and Hankamp, especially the SaeboMAS, are used worldwide in prominent rehabilitation centers. Since many health insurance companies reimburse a certain amount of the product, they have become more widely available for patients who are in need of a home recovery tool.
