PROFILE

  • Internationally known as a center of excellence in telemedicine and rehabilitation technology, Roessingh Research and Development (RRD) is an independent research and development organization that is connected to the Roessingh rehabilitation centre. RRD is the largest scientific research center focused on rehabilitation technologies, cooperating closely with the University of Twente.

RRD performs a lot of its own research, and is involved in a number of national and international projects that use robotic technology to further develop medical treatment methods. Project WiiTM, for example, uses the Wii gaming system to help children with Cerebral Palsy to make sure they remain as physically able as possible. For children, it is extremely important to keep rehabilitation from becoming boring and repetitive.

VirtuRob is a project wherein a virtual reality environment is combined with different experimental robotic devices. The aim of the project is to provide therapy in a home environment.
