PROFILE

  • SINTEF is a well-known research organisation in Scandinavia. It is one of the largest independent research organisation, if not the largest. Being non-commercial, their profits go back into their own research and developments. In the last five years they have invested over NOK 500 million back into the organisation. It is a broadly based, multidisciplinary research concern and is one of the top international institutions when it comes to technology, medicine, and the social sciences.

    The divisions of the SINTEF include the SINTEF Foundation, four limited companies and the SINTEF Holding. As well as completing research projects, the SINTEF also helps new companies get started. They have partnered with the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, the University of Oslo, and they work with many other research organisations.

    SINTEF operates in partnership with the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim, and collaborates with the University of Oslo. NTNU personnel work on SINTEF projects, while many SINTEF staff teach at NTNU.

    Their 2100 employees are spread out in two different locations; 1500 are located in SINTEF’s head office in Trondheim and 420 in Oslo. They also have offices in; Bergen, Stavanger and Ålesund, Houston, Rio de Janeiro, Chile, and a laboratory in Hirtshals, Denmark.
