PROFILE

  • Being one of the premiere universities in Japan, the University of Electro-Communication (UEC) is located in Chofu in Tokyo, Japan. It was first established in 1918 as the Technical Institute for Wireless-Communications and was renamed as the Central Technical Institute for Wireless-Communications in 1945. In 1949, it was established as a national university and was named as the University of Electro-Communications.

As a leading university, especially in the field of information and engineering, the school maintains two faculties, each having its own departments and specialization. Moreover, UEC has various graduate schools for students wishing to pursue further studies.

The UEC is also equipped with various labs and research facilities that mostly involve the study of information technology, robotics and artificial intelligence. One of these labs is the Mitsuhara Matsumoto Lab, wherein the main research area focuses on perceptual information processing and intelligent robotics.

Some of the lab’s projects include the Robovie-II robot that is a human-size humanoid robot, the communication robot called M3-Synchy, Nuvo the small humanoid robot, and the autonomous mobile robot called Pioneer-III.

With the advent of new technology and rapid changes in the world of technology especially in robotics, the University of Electro-Communications, along with its numerous labs and research centers, is dedicated to providing students and researchers with solid experience and essential information.
