  • Commonly referred to as UPenn or simply Penn, the University of Pennsylvania is one of the top private Ivy League research universities in the United States of America. Established in 1740, this American research university aimed at focusing on practical education for commerce and public service.

    Today, the university offers a wide range of expertise in its various academic departments, extensive research enterprise, and several community outreach programs. Known for its medical school, dental school, design school and research capabilities, the University of Pennsylvania has 12 Schools to educate and train its more than 21,000 students.

    As a top research university, UPenn has various research centers, facilities and laboratories, each offering specialization and in-depth technical teaching. Students interested in the field of robotics and technology, UPenn’s General Robotics, Automation, Sensing & Perception Laboratory (GRASP) is among the numerous robotics labs found inside the UPenn. Students and researchers in the university are taught to build, develop and create AUVs, robots, self-configuring humanoids, and even swarms of robots.

    Some of the robots developed inside the lab include the RHex Hexapedal robot, the Legged RoboCup Soccer team, and the CKBot.
