PROFILE

  • Moog is a company that started out as a supplier of aircraft and missile components. Today, Moog is supplying motion control technology to improve performance in a wide variety of markets and applications, including commercial aircraft cockpits, the Formula One racing, medical infusion systems and power-generation turbines. The fact that Moog is involved in many sectors also means that they supply a large range of different products. They also have to keep innovating in order to stay ahead of competition.

At the moment, Moog is involved in Project Lopes, which stands for Lower Extremity Powered ExoSkeleton. This is a Dutch robotics project which aims at creating mechanical legs for people with impaired or lost function/movement resulting from stroke. By reintroducing patients to the motion of walking, the memory function of the brain will be improved, leading to a better and more effective healing process. Early results have shown good progress, and the companies involved are now trying to make Lopes safer and less heavy. This will help the patient walk more freely instead of solely on the treadmill.
