Being one of the oldest universities in the English speaking world, the University of St Andrews was founded in 1413. Serving as a research intensive university, the University of St Andrews has secured 14th place in the 2009 UK Research Assessment Exercise.
The university has an interdisciplinary research centre- the Organic Semiconductor Centre- which aims at advancing semiconductor devices and materials towards applications in the electronics, semi-conductor and optoelectronics industries. Established in 2001, the OSC encourages synergy between chemists and physicists to develop advanced organic semiconductors. OSC facilities include a suite of characterization laboratories with modern equipment for electrical and optical measurements, and a purpose built clean room.
OSC is also involved in the project TIRAMISU, where it contributes in the close-in detection, validation and technical survey.
