PROFILE

  • The Politecnico di Torino, also known as the Polytechnic University of Turin, is an engineering public university. Located in Turin, Italy, the institution stands as the oldest technical university in Italy. Today, the university offers diverse courses in the fields of Industrial Design, Architecture and Engineering.

In the year 1906, the Regio Politecnico di Torino or the Royal Turin Polytechnic was founded as an institution. Earlier in 1859, the school was founded as the Scuola di Applicazione per Ingegneri or the Technical School for Engineers. At the start of the 20th century, the institution decided to collaborate with local and national industries along with the European scientific world. Moreover, the institution initiated new facilities and courses. Having attracted a number of students in more than 100 countries, the institution further set up centers and facilities that focused on theoretical and applied research.

The institution also has its own Robotics Center where researchers have developed a biped humanoid robot, known as the IsaacRobot. The humanoid robot was designed and developed by the IsaacTeam, which mainly includes university students. This project allowed students and researchers to get an idea of how to deal with various issues faced by people suffering from mobility problems. The robot has also participated in the RoboCup competitions.
