PROFILE

  • Headquartered in Berlin and Munich, Siemens is a German multinational electronics and engineering conglomerate. Besides being the largest engineering company in Europe, Siemens is also a maker of medical diagnostic equipments and consumer electronics. The main activities of the company are in the fields of energy, industry, healthcare and transportation. Siemens is organized into 5 major divisions: Energy, Industry, Siemens Financial Services, Healthcare and Infrastructure & Cities.

Offering a variety of electronics-related and electrical engineering products and services, Siemens spends a great deal of money in research and development. The company has a passion for technology, sustainability, responsibility, innovative strength and an uncompromising dedication to quality as well as excellence.

In the medical sector, where small innovations can make large impacts, Siemens is currently cooperating in two European medical projects that make use of robotic technology and medical technology. Project MIRIAM, for example, involves the development of Minimally Invasive Robot for an MRI environment. The project aims at developing a robotic needle, which will be functional during an MRI exam as opposed to other electronic devices that are not functional when an MRI machine is working. This means that the surgeon can remotely control a needle to absolute precision and that they will be able to check the patient at all times, if necessary. The second project is linked with MIRIAM since it concerns a robotically steered needle.
