The Robot Techniek Lab, or Technical Robot Lab is a project that wishes to improve the interaction between people with an electro technical education and companies in this same field. Newly graduates will have a wealth of knowledge of which companies can benefit from.
Stronger bonds between schools and the business world will trigger a new perspective on innovation which, in turn, will motivate students to work hard and choose for a career in robotics. At this moment in time the electro technical and mechanical engineering studies are coping with an image problem, while there is a definite growth of demand for skilled workers in these areas. This means that the demand and supply of skilled workers are being driven further apart.
Making a combination of multiple studies like IT, electro technics and mechanical engineering into one study of robotics might spark new interest of newcomers. The demand in the business world has changed over time from production process thinking to product thinking, but the education has fallen behind and these two are therefore no longer in sink. This may cause problems to graduated students looking for work in the science field. To reach middle ground, this will require teachers to undergo new training and to develop and designed new course modules that are more up to date. Robotics is a field of science that is constantly undergoing changes and education has to be more in line with this to provide a better future for potential new researchers.
This project will hopefully increase the amount of students choosing a technical study by placing a learning and development center. A large number of computers, robots and other modern IT hardware will be placed here to get children interested. The Robot Techniek Lab will also open a mechatronic-control center and an special environment for experiments
