AIBO ERS-110 by Sony was the first AIBO entertainment dog robot introduced to the public in 1999. Sony Aibo comes in a champagne gold color with gray colored legs.  It has drop down ears that are that are rounded at the bottom and a long, active four-section tail.  This robot dog comes with its own pink ball to play with.  AIBO ERS-110 is the first generation Sony robot that sold 3000 products online in just twenty minutes, and sold another 2000 units in less than a week when introduced in the US.

Although it does not respond to voice commands, Sony ERS uses a top-notch sound controller.  This cute little fellow requires long-term care and patience from his owners.  The dog robot needs interaction for some time to raise it from a puppy to an adult.  It has a head sensor that can be utilized to praise or discipline the dog.  A gender may be assigned by using the memory stick which comes in 8 MB OR 16MB.  AIBO does not boot up and requires a 16 MB memory stick for custom programming.

Sony has made AIBO ERS-110 capable of judgment and response on its own.  It can show emotions of happiness and anger coupled with instincts of the need of friendship and companionship.  It can walk perfectly with its four legs and perform complex movements with 18 degrees of freedom; 3 for every leg, 3 for the head, 2 for the tail and 1 for the mouth.

Additionally, AIBO ERS-110’s color CCD camera allows diction of an object’s shape and color.  It has a Range Finder that allows it to detect distance from a certain object.  Its LED lamps allow owners to recognize its mood; green for happiness and red for anger.  The Mini Stereo Microphone allows it to hear the Sound Commander remote control and locate the source of the sound.  The miniature speaker enables it to create sounds and the built-in Acceleration sensor helps to regain and maintain balance.  AIBO has its own Angular Velocity Sensor for rotary movements.
