Toshiba made some changes on ApriAlpha resulting in the development of a newer version - the ApriAlpha ver. 2. Toshiba managed to make the new personal robot look more human-friendly by adding a pair of eyes. ApriAlpha ver. 2 also has improved voice detection features compared to the first version, which allows it to efficiently locate the source of a voice in a noisy place and respond instantly to a series of voice commands.
With ApriAlpha ver. 2, one can have a hands-free, centralized control over all home appliances. This prototype robot is capable of turning all the appliances on or off, depending on the voice command it hears. Although ApriAlpha ver.2 is not capable of washing the dishes in the sink, this personal robot can do essential things such as reading emails loud if you are too tired or lazy to do so. It can also send surveillance images to your cell phone when you are far away from home. Complete automation inside one’s home is one of Toshiba’s goals - to provide a life support partner to humans in the form of ApriAlpha robots.
