  • Released:
  • 2010
  • A new robot named ARM, which stands for ‘Autonomous Robotic Manipulation’, was launched by DARPA. The goal of this robotic milestone is to create a hardware and software that enables the ARM robot to execute certain moves.

In this ongoing research project, developers are funded to create algorithms that ARM robot can understand and enable it to perform complex tasks. One of the research teams to receive the robotics platform is the SRI International. They displayed their topnotch robotic manipulation capabilities using the ARM robot.

Additionally, groups of individuals who want to write software for the ARM robot will be given a chance to do so as another ARM robot will be made available for the public. Public developers will see ARM perform simple to complex tasks using their written software in real-time through the internet.

    Features:

    • 2 Barrett Hands that allows grasp and manipulation
    • 2 Barrett WAM Arms and 6-axis force sensors placed at the wrist for excellent grasp
    • Pan-tilt head for efficient visual contact
