Honda Motor Co., Ltd., unveiled their all new Asimo Version 2 robot back in 2005, calling it as the “New Asimo.” This humanoid robot has made leaps and bounds compared to its earlier version. In December of 2005, this humanoid robot debuted and features the ability to pursue vital tasks in a real-life environment like an office, and possesses an advanced level of physical capabilities.

As compared to its predecessor, this new humanoid robot achieves the improved ability to perform in sync with humans, like walking with a person while holding their hands. The Japanese company has also added a new function to the new ASIMO robot making it capable of carrying objects using a cart.

Furthermore, this humanoid can run faster as compared to its earlier version, at a speed of 6km per hour. It also operates 10 to 30 minutes longer compared to its predecessor. The new version has 34 Degrees of Freedom, up by 8 DOF. It is also slightly heavier at 54kg; the 2000 model is 52 kilograms.

In 2006, this robot fell trying to climb a flight of stairs at a presentation in Tokyo, Japan, but a month later, Honda Motor Corporation enhanced this humanoid and made it capable of not just walking but also kicking a soccer ball and running up and down a flight of stairs. A year later, the new Asimo Version 2 humanoid robot once again experienced another modification. This time, researchers updated its intelligence technologies, allowing several Asimo robots to closely work with each other.

And as the development continues for this humanoid robot, the Japanese car manufacturer shows this robot across the globe to encourage and inspire young students to study sciences. Eventually the company hopes that Asimo will serve as another set of eyes, ears, hands and legs, especially for people who need it badly.
