The year 2008 marked another milestone for both robotic enthusiasts and liquor lovers. Robot developer Jamie Price released BaR2D2, a wheeled mobile bar that drew inspiration from DragonCon and a movie with replica R2D2 droids running in the foreground. Price’s friend, Michael Macht, who is also a DragonCon regular, encouraged him towards developing a barbot for the event due to its party tone.
BaR2D2 roams around a party to transport and serve liquor to guests. It has a motorized beer elevator and motorized ice/mixer drawer. It is capable of computerized drink mixing and has sound-activated neon lighting, which perfectly gives it a bar feel. Being driven by wheels, Bar2D2 can be used to take the party anywhere - even on the road.
