Beauty Robot
In 2006, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, together with the Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology, announced the creation of a Meinu robot. Meinu literally translates as a beautiful woman robot.
In that year, the very first beauty robot of China was given the name Rong Cheng. This gynoid model robot is capable of performing various actions that a real human would actually do during socializations. For these reasons, Rong Cheng, or the beauty robot, is regarded as a social robot that can be utilized as a service robot as well as an entertainment robot.
Rong Cheng can move and avoid obstacles in its way using visual recognition. It recognizes human speech and is able to speak in Mandarin, English, and Shichuan dialects. It tells jokes and sings to entertain people. Beauty robot is intended for use in industries, such as hotels and where tour-guide functions are essential.
