  • The future of elderly care has been taken to greater heights with the creation of Carebot by Gecko Systems. This service robot was released in 2003. This new device is an internet appliance that is also used for remote video or audio monitoring.

    Carebot is engineered to provide monitoring of patients and delivers automatic reminders on what medicines need to be taken at a specific time. It provides companionship and emergency notification to the caregivers. It can call the attention of family members in case the elderly person needs some assistance to get up. Carebot is programmed to dial 9-1-1, or any other number the user designates for emergencies.

    This robot uses the company’s own systems namely, the GeckoNav allowing it to navigate autonomously and avoid obstacles that may hinder its movement, the GeckoChat for interacting with people or those that provide care to the patients and the GeckoTrak which gives the position of this robot to the care giver.

    Carebot also provides entertainment to patients by telling jokes and playing songs. It also gives encouragement to patients by reciting Bible verses.
