Regarded as the little brother to Cycloid II, Cycloid III was developed by Robotis with four fewer degrees of freedom than its predecessor. This means that from 23 degrees of freedom of the Cycloid II, there are only 19 degrees of freedom for the Cycloid III. The primary purpose for the reduction in the degrees of freedom is to make the humanoid robot more affordable, but it also has research applications.
Cycloid III stands at 37 centimeters and weighs two kilograms. Its remote control uses Bluetooth technology and it uses Dynamixel actuators, while DX-113 modules provide the degrees of freedom. Like its predecessor, the control module used is CM2, based around an 8-bit Atmel ATMega128 MCU.
