In 2006, Iran’s Semnan University produced a humanoid robot, mainly for research purposes. The robot was named Dara and was developed by Team Iran Fan Avaran. Dara was the team’s entry to RoboCup 2006 held in Germany. The primary function of the robot was to simulate human behavior, such that in the near future it could be used to perform human tasks.
DARA stands at 140cm and with its camera, it can see its surroundings. It also has the capacity to hear audio sounds, and recognize and do pantomime or vocal orders like pointing to its sides. It can also follows orders like sit down, stop, Dara! among others. This humanoid robot has 23 Degrees Of Freedom (DOF).
Dara’s internal system utilized a DSP processor from the TMS320c54 family. AVR microcontrollers allowed it to receive feedbacks from its joints and sensors. It also has better designs in its mechanism and electronic system as compared to other humanoid robots of its kind.
