  • DARwIn-OP is a small humanoid robot developed by RoMeLa team at Virginia Tech in cooperation with Purdue University and Pennsylvania University. The name DARwIn-OP stands for ‘Dynamic Anthropomorphic Robot with Intelligence – Open Source’.

Headed by Dennis Hong, RoMeLa team created DARwIn-OP on an open source platform, where users are allowed to modify either hardware or software, or both. Additionally, users could use a range of software implementations like Python, C++, MATLAB, & LabVIEW.

Standing at 17.9 inches and weighing 6.2 pounds, DARwIn-OP robot left the robotic world in awe after its soccer game performance in RoboCup 2011 at Istanbul.
