Italian Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna’s CRIM lab created the DustBot robot, which can collect waste and garbage from homes. It is a humanoid robot which can be called by phone or SMS. It uses a GPS to automatically get to the houses of its customers to collect the garbage and put it in its dustbin.

DustBot is also equipped with environmental sensors to monitor and check the pollution level. It is part of the project aimed in developing, testing, and demonstrating a system that will improve the management of city hygiene and urban waste using a network of self-sufficient and cooperating robots.

This robot is supposedly the world’s first in terms of collecting trash upon request. The DustBot is also designed to work in places where it is quite hard for dump trucks to operate. In addition to collecting garbage, this robot can sweep, vacuum, and clean even in narrow streets found in old European cities.
