  • Developed by Boston Dynamics, LS3, also known as Legged Squad Support Systems, is a modern robot that can go anywhere. As soldiers and marines go on foot, these rough-terrain robots carry the heavy loads.

Funded by the US Marine Corps and DARPA, LS3 robots are capable of carrying around 400 lbs of gear as well as sufficient fuel for a 20-mile operation, lasting a day. These robots don’t need dedicated drivers as they can automatically follow their leaders by using computer vision. The robots can also reach designated locations by means of terrain sensing as well as GPS. LS3 robots started their 2-year field-testing phase in the year 2012.

An experienced team of scientists and engineers is committed to developing and improving LS3. Most of these team members belong to Bell Helicopter, Boston Dynamics, the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Carnegie Mellon, Woodward HRT as well as AAI Corporation.
