Have you ever dreamed of having your own R2-D2 from the Star Wars movies? Now, it’s nearly possible. Nissan created Pivo 2, an electric concept car designed for perfect parallel parking and zero reverse driving. Pivo 2 uses its own guiding robotic agent named Pivo-kun.

Pivo-kun, created in 2007, was inspired by the concept of its brother PaPeRo by NEC. This professional robot can be classified as a “robotic guide.” It uses a Global Positioning System (GPS) to guide a driver to his or her destination.

Pivo-kun was also designed with the intention and purpose of a safer driving experience. Based on Nissan’s research, a driver is more likely to get into an accident when stressed, depressed, or tired. Because of this, they designed Pivo-kun to help keep the driver happy and in a good mood.

Using facial monitoring technology, Pivo-kun is able to detect the driver’s facial expressions. It also “listens” to the driver and detects voice patterns. Pivo-kun shakes its head, nods, and talks to the driver too.

    Features:

    • Uses global positioning system (GPS) to guide driver
    • Facial monitoring technology detects human emotions
    • “Listens” to driver and detects voice patterns
    • Shakes and nods head to communicate
    • “Talks” to driver to entertain
