RI-MAN, created by RIKEN and the Bio Mimetic Control Research Center (BMCRC), is an assisting humanoid robot designed to provide healthcare support. RIKEN and BMCRC also created RI-MAN to aid in their research of flexible and dynamic motor functions.

This robot can perform tasks that require bending and twisting, such as carrying patients and transporting them to other locations or helping them change positions. This ability is possible because of his tactile sensors that detect a human’s position through touch. RI-MAN also has facial recognition and scent discernment, and is able to move freely with six motor-powered joints. His frame is made of soft and flexible material to allow for better robot-human interaction.

    Features:

    • 6 motor-powered joints
    • “Coupled-Drive” mechanism that combines the torque of 2 motors
    • 5 installed controllers
    • 2 microphones as ears
    • Sound localization
    • Facial recognition
    • Gas sensors
