RoboPal, created by ATR Intelligent Robotics and Communication Laboratories of Osaka University, was designed for human-robot interaction research. ATR created RoboPal to assist humans with their daily errands such as grocery shopping. It fulfills four interactive roles, namely directive, responsive, collaborative, and independent. Its base has a compartment where a user can store baggage, and also has handle bars to provide support when walking. RoboPal has wheels that allow it to follow or lead its user, and can even glance and perform different gestures for interaction.
