  • Launched by WowWee in 2007, the animated robot Roboquad comes with multidirectional capabilities along with superb sensory awareness. Its motion design resembles an arthropod, giving it improved movement capabilities. Equipped with light and sound sensors, this quad robot is able to avoid obstacles that obstruct its path. It also has the ability to evaluate distance through its IR scanner vision system.

Roboquad is able to walk like a crab, but also has the ability to stomp-walk and do rotation walking. The robot can scan for objects to its left and right that are within three feet. It automatically turns to face those objects when it detects their presence. Roboquad also reacts to changes in light levels in its environment, and searches for the nearest object whenever it is disturbed from a stationary mode.

Another unique characteristic of Roboquad is the inclusion of 72 pre-programmed functions. Its creators also reserved spaces for 40 more programmable moves, making this animated arthropod highly customizable.

All of these characteristics, along with the rest of the robot’s features, earned Roboquad the honor of being a Gold Seal Awardee during the Oppenheim Toy Portfolio. It also won the 2007 Outstanding Product in the iParenting Media Award.
