Archie

  •
  • Type, Locomotion:
  • Humanoid
  •
  • Released:
  • 2009
  • Archie was developed by Vienna University of Technology in 2004 with the goal of providing a humanoid robot capable of natural human walking style, i.e., trajectory walking. The Austrian developers aspired to provide an affordable android that can help with the daily household tasks like cleaning and cooking while keeping Archie’s movement almost human-like.

Although it was said that the robot would have more than 33 central processing units - one for each motor, Archie turned out to be a robot with tons of underdeveloped features. You will see in the videos that Archie cannot even walk straight without help, and its sagging head makes it look creepy. Everyone is hoping in the near future that Archie would have all the cool robotic features that every robot savvy wants. For now, Archie just can’t make it to the lineup of topnotch robots.

    Features:

    • Natural human walking style
    • Trajectory walking
