  • In 2009, Dr. Prahlad Vadakkepat, an assistant professor at the National University of Singapore, started working on a humanoid robot he named Creo. This robot was developed entirely by Dr. Vadakkepat at the university’s Mechatronics and Automation Lab.

The robot supports a wide array of research in the world of robotics which includes intelligent system, image processing, kinematics and dynamics. The research also includes real time control systems, wireless communication and energy efficiency in biped locomotion.

Designed for use in research, Creo has numerous features that put it ahead of other humanoids in functionality. It utilizes a double knee joint configuration based on close kinematics. Its actuators, which use daisy chain network topology, can be modified to maximize motion efficiency. Proving its worth as an ideal robot for research, it has an open architectural platform allowing its processors to be customized.

Creo is still undergoing development. Additional features can be expected to be implemented in the months to come.

    Features:

    • Stands at 54 cm
    • 26 degrees of freedom
    • 1.3 megapixel camera
    • Inertia measurement unit (3-axis accelerometer and 2-axis gyro)
    • Intelligent system
    • Image processing
    • Kinematics and dynamics
    • Real-time control system
    • Wireless communication
    • Bipedal locomotion
