Universität München created a humanoid robot to study various key technologies that are vital for personal robots. Studies like robot design, sensors and perception, locomotion, localization and navigation are included in making the HERMES robot. It also comprises of; “manipulation”, “human-robot interaction”, “communication”, “adaptability and learning”. “System architecture and integration” and “dependability” are other parts of the studies.

This experimental robot is anthropomorphic in terms of its size and shape. With the development of this humanoid robot, it clearly shows how big and how safe it can be for a robot to come into contact with new users.

The developer of the HERMES robot said that this humanoid robot’s systems and skills are also tested with other robots. Moreover, HERMES can interact with human beings and talk to them in English, French and even in German. It can also answer some questions and perform some tasks when requested.
