The National University of Singapore or NUS developed a team of humanoid robots which would compete in RoboCup’s Humanoid League. Among them is RoPE II, which stands for Robot for Personal Entertainment and is the second prototype built by NUS.
This autonomous humanoid robot can kick a ball, do a normal bipedal walk and even modify its motion depending on its environment. Due to the small-sized computer on it, movements of this robot are manipulated. This allows it to perform programmed movements like searching the ball, kicking it and shooting it towards the target.
Although this robot was designed for research purposes and not for competition, its performance surpassed their expectations and did well during the competition. The RoPE II was able to pass the comprehensive performance of the humanoids joining the competitions. It fared well in obstacle walking, walking on ramps and ball passing. Its capability to kick the ball during a penalty was excellent and passed the freestyle games.
