  • The Laboratory of Computer Science, Robotics and Microelectronics of Montpellier or LIRMM has created a biped robot device called Sherpa. It was designed to carry heavy loads and contains several vital features of humans and animals.

It is the French laboratory’s ambition to have an artificial entity that is embedded with biologically inspired control methods based on a huge set of sensors.

This robot is bipedal, has direct drive capabilities and parallel manner actuation. These features allow Sherpa to have human like capabilities and improved bipedal walking. Additionally, these two features allow this robot to interact better with its environment.

    Sherpa Features:

    • Direct-drive capabilities
    • Parallel-manner actuation
    • Multiple Degrees of Freedom
    • Bio-inspired control methods
