Sil-bot is intended to be a carebot; a robot that will care for the elderly. This robot was designed due to the fact that humans will grow old and will need companions to attend to their needs. Sil-bot is a brainchild of the Korean Institute of Science and Technology (KIST), specifically its Center for Intelligent Robotics (CIR).
This penguin-like robot is also known as H-robot, and has an expressive face characterized by blinking eyes and moving lips. It is capable of typical face recognition and speech functions, allowing it to engage in conversations. It can detect its master’s voice from within three meters.
Sil-bot was designed to be a constant companion of the elderly to keep their body and mind healthy and active. This is accomplished with the integration of games. The robot was also programmed with the ability to remind the elderly of the medications they have to take.
