  • Students at TU Delft, TU Eindhoven and U. of Twente, which are united in the robot soccer team "Dutch Robotics", created a team of soccer-playing robots, which will be joining the Robocup challenge. The team, composed of students from 3ME faculty together with other researchers, came up with the TUlip robot.

This soccer-playing robot looks quite odd from the usual humanoids. It is made up of anodized aluminium components, wrapped with soft foam and tough aramid composite materials. These materials make this robot light yet durable.

Its researchers also installed a 1 gig single board computer with 256MB of RAM, which serves as its brain and allows it to be fully autonomous. Powered by a 24V lithium polymer battery, this Dutch robot can play soccer for 30 minutes.

In order for this robot to keep track of the ball, its developers installed two cameras, which functions as its eyes, coupled with a vestibular sensor. Additionally, this autonomous robot is able to perform an almost human-like motion thanks to its hips which have three DOF and its legs which have six DOF.

    Tulip Features:

    • Two cameras with vestibular sensor
    • On-board computer
    • Arms that help it to stand when tipped over
    • Aluminium body
