  • The Korean Institute of Science and Technology or KST together with Creative Technical Services (CTS) developed VANI, a telepresence teaching aid robot. Short for Variety, Ability, and Intimacy, VANI is used to teach English in Korea.

The developer of this teaching robot took the services of more than a hundred native English speakers to teach the language. With its characteristic 3D GUI, small children can interact with VANI.

Standing at 1.2 meters, this educational telepresence robot weighs 40 kilograms. It has a 30.7 cm touch screen display mounted on its chest, which can be adjusted depending on the height of its student. To make it even safer for children, researchers at KIST have installed an obstacle detection feature.

    VANI Features:

    • Touch Screen Monitor
    • Speakers, microphones and cameras
    • Obstacle detection sensor
