Roppie
Roppie is the brainchild of the Industrial Technology Research Institute of Taiwan (ITRI). It was developed in 2009 with an interface designed by PilotFish. This service robot is designed with helpful household capabilities like folding towels, linens, and clothing.
This robot uses eye-to-motion technology, allowing it to smartly translate the images it captures into actions. Roppieās body has blue patches on strategic parts where sensors are located. These sensors provide the capacity to convert physical interaction into digital input, which is then displayed into the LCD screens in the face and chest.
Recently, Energid Technologies has collaborated with ITRI and applied new grasping software to Roppie. This is a combined effort in providing higher degrees of freedom and greater grasping capabilities to the service robot.
