  • Released:
  • 2006
  • RunBot was designed by Tao Geng, a PhD student from the University of Glasgow. It can walk at a speed of 3.5 lengths per second, breaking the speed record of the French running robot RABBIT, which made 1.5 leg lengths per second. RunBot is a simple-minded two-legged robot. Geng created the robot under the supervision of the University of Göttingen’s Dr. Florentin Wörgötter and Dr. Bernd Porr.

Although the RunBot doesn’t actually run, it walks very fast using a simple mechanical structure and advanced sensory algorithms. The sensory algorithms allow the RunBot to study and learn its walking pattern while it moves. At the same time, the speed of its legs increase until it achieves maximum velocity.

    Features:

    • Equipped with two sensors acting like neurons to control its movement
    • Curved feet for easy rolling
    • Uses its own momentum when motors are turned off
    • Capable of walking 3.5 leg lengths per second
