  • The Tokyo University of Science created a humanoid teacher robot called Saya. It can express six basic emotions like fear, disgust, anger, happiness, gloom and surprise. This teacher robot expresses emotions like a real human and functions as a substitute teacher in Japan.

The synthetic rubber face of this robot allows it to display the feeling or the facial expression it wants to demonstrate. All this is possible because of the 18 motors under her face.

Additionally, the Saya robot can talk in several languages, give tasks to her students and even do roll calls. This humanoid teacher can say “Thank You” with its lips moving sideward to show her pleasure.

Originally, this teacher robot was created to be a receptionist robot. However, its creator Professor Hiroshi Kobayashi of the Japanese university decided to enhance it and make it a substitute humanoid robot teacher.

    Saya Features:

    • Synthetic face
    • Cameras, speakers and microphones
    • Can show basic emotions
    • Knows various languages
    • Pre-programmed phrases
