  • Ryomei Engineering, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries’ subsidiary, has designed a fish robot, which mimics the motion and the shape of a sea bream. It took four years, since 1999, for the scientists at the Mitsubishi Heavy industries to develop the Sea Bream Bot.

This robot fish, which weighs 5.5lbs (2.5kg) and stretches for 20 inches (50cm) in length, is aimed to be used for fish farms targeting Japanese fishing enthusiasts to improve their angling skills.

The company, which also develops and builds ships and several ocean structures, believes that the robot fish could somewhat swim further as compared to autonomous submarines. It cost the company about $1 million to develop the robot fish and its special tank.

    Features:

    • Computer controlled fins
    • Copy complex technology which keeps submarines hovering
    • Runs on a battery for 30 minutes
